چکیده

To exploit the unique possibilities that will become available at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), a collaboration of about 50 institutes from 15 countries was formed to efficiently enable an innovative research program towards low-energy antimatter-physics. In the Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR) antiprotons and heavy ions are slowed down from 30 MeV to energies as low as 20 keV by a magnetic low-energy storage ring (LSR) and an electrostatic ultra-low energy storage ring (USR). In this contribution, the facility and the research program covered are described with an emphasis on the accelerator chain and the expected particle numbers.

Thin Foil-based Secondary Emission Monitor for Low Intensity, Low Energy Beam Profile Measurements∗

A foil-based secondary emission monitor (SEM) was developed for beam profile measurements at the Ultra-low energy Storage Ring (USR) that will be installed at the future Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany. Simulations of the optimised design of the monitor are presented. Furthermore, its usability for the low energy antiproton (p̄) beam profile moni...

An Ultra-low Energy Electrostatic Storage Ring at FLAIR

The Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR) recently got part of the FAIR core project. A large part of the wide physics program decisively relies on new experimental techniques to cool and slow down antiprotons to 20 keV, namely on the development of an ultra-low energy electrostatic storage ring (USR). For the USR to fulfil its key role in the FLAIR project, the developmen...

Design of an Antiproton Recycler Ring

At present, the only place in the world where experiments utilizing low-energy antiprotons can be performed is the AD at CERN. The MUSASHI trap, as part of the ASACUSA collaboration, enables access to antiproton energies of a few hundreds of eV. Whilst the MUSASHI trap enables cutting-edge research, the available beam quality and luminosity is not sufficient for collision experiments on the lev...

Faraday Cup for Low-energy, Low-intensity Beam Measurements at the Usr*

For destructive beam intensity measurements, electrostatic Faraday cups will be incorporated into the Ultra-low energy Storage Ring (USR) and its transfer lines at the Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR). This multi-purpose machine will offer both slow and fast extracted beams resulting in a wide range of intensities and varying time structure of the beam. In this contri...

Beam Position Monitor Development for the Usr*

Capacitive pick-ups for closed-orbit measurements are presently under development for an Ultra-low energy Storage Ring (USR) at the future Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR). Low-intensity, low-energy antiprotons impose challenging demands on the sensitivity of the monitoring system. The nondestructive beam position monitors (BPMs) should be able to measure about 10 par...
